Texas Memories

Cindy, Steve, Ben, and Emily Venable
(Dear friends from church in Canyon, TX... Steve performed our wedding ceremony)

Palo Duro Canyon

Scott and I hiked and biked here many times.

Thai Kitchen... the first place Scott and I met face to face. We met there for lunch. I wasn't too sure about him then... I thought he talked too much... which is really hilarious if you know Scott.

Our first house... Canyon, TX... yes, it really was mint green... but the red door was cool.

First Celebrity Swine Flu Fatality

And we all know who the carrier is...
(I can't take credit for this... my friend Misty from TX sent this to me... but I thought it was worth a blog entry.)

Facts about me most people don't know...

1) On my lower back, I have a tattoo of a bald eagle wrapped in a Confederate flag.

2) Hands down, I think FDR was absolutely the best POTUS ever.

3) I am a 4 point Calvinist. Go ULIP!

4) My dream... to someday live in Mississippi.

Initially Intriguing Qualities

Have you ever crossed paths with an intriguing person... like a random person who you might never see again but wish you could be friends with him/her... or at least know a little more of his/her story? That happened to me this last weekend... but unfortunately it wasn't at a place where it would have been socially appropriate for me to corner this person and ask her 57 questions about her life and how she arrived at the place she is now.

If I get the feeling that someone has arrived where they are by an unusual route or through atypical circumstances, I'm usually intrigued. If someone appears to love sarcasm and have a dry sense of humor or has an underlying mischievous but mostly harmless streak, I'm usually intrigued.

So... I'm curious... When you first meet someone who you think is an especially interesting or intriguing person, what are the qualities you see in that person that make them interesting to you? Is it a unique sense of humor? Is it the fact that the person stands on the fringe of the crowd and appears to enjoy watching everyone else? Is it an unusual amount of kindness?

Tex-Mex

I'm thinking of food right now... specifically Tex-Mex food (pictured above is a chimichanga from Abuelo's Mexican Embassy)... and in about 10 days I will get to taste the glorious stuff once again... because I'm making a trip to West Texas... going to see some friends while I'm there... but mostly I'm going for the food... food I will never be able to get in Nebraska.
